Guides

Career introduces FEN's conservation story through scenarios. Sandbox lets you customise economy and welfare; it is not automatically free of money pressure.

Source-based instructions checked on 14 October 2026, not a hands-on play report. Menu names follow Frontier's English guides; custom bindings and platform layouts may differ.

1. Choose a mode

For guided objectives choose Career, Start New Career +, then the first Chapter 1 location. For a practice zoo choose Sandbox, Create New Zoo, select biome and continent and review Default, Creative or Challenge presets.

Use Sandbox Settings to inspect Economy and Animal Welfare before Create Zoo. Franchise instead requires online access and a Frontier account.

2. Make a working zoo

Place the entrance and connect Guest Paths. Add the Trade Centre and required staff facilities, with power and path access. Provide Keepers with a Keeper Hut, staff rest facilities and the other care and maintenance services your enclosure needs.

Choose one species from the roster. Read housing, population and environment requirements before building its enclosure. Habitat types include terrestrial and flying; Aquarium and Exhibit are distinct systems. Blueprints can speed construction but still need checks after placement.

3. Adopt and inspect

Open Trading & Storage, adopt an available animal and move it from storage to its suitable enclosure. Hire the care and maintenance staff needed, then inspect animal welfare and traversable space.

Review guest hunger, thirst, toilets, energy and education. Open Management and Finances before adding another enclosure; expansion costs and recurring animal care are different expenses.

Questions people ask

Which mode teaches the basics?

Career provides scenario objectives. A customised Sandbox is useful for practising tools without your chosen economy or welfare constraints.

Can I use premade habitats?

Yes. Use official or community blueprints, then verify enclosure validity, research requirements and animal welfare.
