New animal systems and reserves
Build aquariums for fully aquatic species, using filtration networks to set Freshwater, Brackish or Saltwater. Flying habitats require mesh roofs and species-specific flight space.
In Wildlife Reserves, establish ecosystems, prepare release groups and study animals through research networks. Planet Hub tracks research, conservation and project progress across Career, Sandbox and Franchise.
Seasons, photography and construction
Frontier's September roundup documents seasons. The Photo Mode announcement describes camera controls for zoos and reserves, including zoom, roll and depth of field, plus a WWF UK competition planned for later in October 2026.
The building feature page documents scaling, Flexi-colour and improved construction tools. These are documented capabilities, not evidence of a measured performance improvement over the first game.
Console play is available in both generations
Planet Zoo 2 launched digitally for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 13 October 2026. The original Planet Zoo already has a separate Console Edition, so console availability alone is not a sequel addition.
Choose the sequel for the systems you want to use, then check its edition and requirements. Purchases and DLC from the original are not assumed to transfer. Frontier's FAQ says the sequel has no multiplayer.
